Ebony Pages Book club was founded in Nashville, TN in January 2003. Our mission is to increase our appreciation of African American literature while building life long relationships.
The club bylaws are to ensure that our meetings remain orderly as well as entertaining. EPBC has a host of deep and enlightened Sistah’s and everyone’s opinion is respected.
Hostess
Each member will be asked to volunteer and host the book club meeting at their home or a location of their choosing. The hostess is solely responsible for the food and paper goods. Alcoholic drinks will be served at the discretion of the hostess.
Meetings
Ebony Pages Book Club meetings will be held the 3rd Friday of each month except for July and December when we do not meet. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at 7:45 the discussion of the book will begin. After 7:45 you are late and the fee is $3.00 which is payable at that meeting. The first 1½ is reserved for the discussion of the book. The last hour is designated for business such as upcoming events or other open items. Since we only meet 10 times a year attendance is very important. If you miss two consecutive meetings you will be asked to reevaluate your commitment to EPBC.
Dues
Dues are $10.00 a month. The dues cover our yearly community service event, birthdays and other miscellaneous expenses. Monthly dues will be paid on a quarterly basis.
· Jan - $30 (Jan-Mar)
· Apr - $30 (Apr-Jun)
· Aug - $40 (Aug–Nov)
If you don’t read the book for that month, the fine will be $20.00. Even if you do not attend that month’s meeting you are still responsible for reading the selected book. If you cannot attend you will be asked to write a book review for that month’s book and send it to the Webmaster before the book club meeting. If the review is not received you will be fined the $20.00.
Books
The books for the remainder of the year are posted on our website http://www.epbc.info . Each November before Christmas break we will select the books for the upcoming year. This would allow everyone enough time to get their books and read them at their own pace.
